Prospective Members 
 
New Members: The following candidates have been proposed for membership by the Board of Directors, and agreed that their names may be published in the Oakleaves. If no objections are filed with the President within seven days after this publication, these candidates will be considered as having been elected to membership the Rotary Club of Chico.
 
 

Ken Chase – A former member of our club for almost 20 years, Ken returns to us after 10 years with Chico Sunrise club. Ken is the President and Creative Director of Lifescapes, A Landscape Development Company. Ken and wife Becky live in Chico and have two adult children.

 

Karin Lightfoot, Ph.D. – Karen is the Director of Nursing at CSU Chico. Formerly from Redding, yet working in Chico, Karin has also been a Professor and lecturer at CSU Chico. She has been President of Sigma Theta Tau’s local chapter, hosted exchange students, deployed as a Red Cross nurse to flood areas and is the Co-Coordinator of the Northern CA Faith Community of Nursing. Karin has been involved with health education in many forms throughout her life. She and her Chico Rotarian husband (and sponsor), Robb, live in Chico. They have four adult children.

Announcements and Upcoming Events

The Club Picnic is September 24. It's the meeting of record that week. See Kevin Moretti.

• The Salvation Army Shopping Spree is Oct. 1. Rose Krepelka said there's been good response on donations but still could use more. (Make your checks to Rotary Foundation; subject line-Salvation Army Shopping.) Up to 30 kids are participating this year. The site has moved to JC Penny.

District 5160 Fall Seminar will be October 19 in Redding. See President Glen Eaton for details on attending,

Club Workday is scheduled for October 26. The following Tuesday, October 29, we'll be dark (no meeting).

• Treat Street is October 31 (i.e., Halloween).

Evan Tuchinsky gave the team report. Team Esplanade had a wine tasting social at Almendra and plans a tour of New Clairveaux in Vina. The monthly team meetings, breakfasts at Italian Cottage, are moving from Wednesday to Thursday so at not to confuse Sima's team! Until the Club launches work on the Centennial Project, Team Esplanade has been maintaining previous years' projects, including helping the Boys and Girls Club in Rotary Plaza.

President Glen Eaton reported that Leanne Chrisman is looking for Club history and memorabilia.

Fine Time and Recognition

Trish Dunlap – Lives of her and Loren have been crazy. Daughter (Kristy) and grandson (Carter) just recently moved back to Chico area. Celebrated 49 years of marriage on 9/5. Life is good, very blessed. – 12 Bells

 

Spencer Boone – He moved A LOT of rock for the Boys and Girls Club. “It was a lot of fun!” Been busy opening up the Redding Orange Theory. Visited San Diego for the first time a few weeks ago, visited Tahoe (first time) for a wedding this past weekend, and recently visited his dad in Kansas City. "Go Chiefs!" They're 2-0. – 5 Bells

Gilbert Mohtes-Chan from CalTrans District 3 reported lots of activity coming up in the area over next several years. If you want to have impact on a project, attend the public meetings three years in advance.
