Undersheriff, Matthew Calkins

Undersheriff Matthew Calkins began his law enforcement career with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. As a deputy sheriff, Undersheriff Calkins worked assignments in patrol, the felony investigations unit and the SWAT team. Prior to being promoted to Undersheriff in 2021, Calkins also spent time as a sergeant assigned to both patrol and the civil division, and as a lieutenant managing the services division. Undersheriff Calkins holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Chico, a Juris Doctor degree from Cal-Northern School of Law, and is an active member of the State Bar of California.
